That’s a Wrap: JEDI Sessions Completed!

Schools have now completed the Junior Engineer Development Initiative (JEDI) sessions! JEDI is a research-backed, classroom-based intervention designed to educate 5th and 6th class students about what engineering really is. Through our three specially designed teacher-led sessions, and one visit from a real engineer, students develop engineering skills, learn about various branches of engineering and deconstruct stereotypes surrounding engineering.

As part of our final rollout phase completed this Spring, 31 teachers attended the online JEDI Teacher Professional Development Session. This provided teachers with the confidence and resources needed to support the implementation of the JEDI programme within classrooms. With data collected from 29 classrooms and 10 schools across Ireland during the Spring Rollout, the analysis and reporting phases are all that remain.

Altogether, we have a total of 60 classrooms, 49 teachers and 25 schools who participated in JEDI across the Winter and Spring Rollouts! We would like to thank each and every one of the teachers and students that have helped us to reach this point. We, of course, would also like to thank the 16 volunteering engineers who co-facilitated the sessions, providing guidance and expertise to the students.

With the data we have seen, we are very impressed and look forward to informing you of the results. We are delighted that so many students, teachers and engineers got involved, helping to inspire interest and improve understanding of engineering!
