The annual Child Research Network (CRN) conference took place on the 4th December 2025, at the UCD Sutherland School of Law. The conference was a fantastic opportunity to hear from a wide range of speakers on the overarching theme of “Advancing Research on Social Determinants of Child Health and Well-being in Ireland: Insights for Improving Outcomes”.
The conference attendees included researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from across the island of Ireland. The conference began with a fantastic presentation by keynote speaker, Dr Jessica Surdey, on advancing adolescent and young adult wellbeing through interdisciplinary research, policy, and education. The remainder of the day saw a wide range of research presentation sessions, poster presentations, and interactive workshops. These sessions covered topics including understanding children’s tech engagement, using Growing Up in Ireland data to inform your own research, supporting marginalised families, and children’s experiences of education.
A member of the CDL Lab and PhD candidate, Shannon Rosbotham, presented her research during the poster presentation session. Shannon’s poster was entitled “Does socioeconomic status moderate the spatial-mathematics association over time? An investigation using the Millenium Cohort Study”. It was fantastic to see the meaningful work from the CDL Lab being showcased at the conference. It provided a welcome opportunity to open conversations about the research and surrounding topics.
The annual CRN conference was an inspiring day full of engaging conversations and insightful presentations. Many thanks to the CRN team for organising the event, and the CDL Lab looks forward to next year!
