Halfway There: JEDI Project Rollout Update

The Junior Engineer Development Initiative (JEDI) is a classroom-based intervention programme designed for 5th and 6th class students. The programme is designed to spark interest in engineering by developing skills such as problem-solving while also debunking common misconceptions about engineers and engineering. It consists of three structured 60 minute engineering sessions led by their classroom teacher, as well as an additional session in which a practising engineer visits to provide real-world insight into the field of engineering.

We are delighted to share that we are now halfway through the JEDI intervention, with the Autumn/Winter rollout successfully completed. We would like to thank everyone for their contributions to the programme so far.

As part of the Autumn/Winter rollout phase, 18 teachers participated in our online JEDI Teacher Professional Development Session. These sessions helped equip teachers with the confidence and resources to deliver the intervention to the students. To date, the JEDI intervention has been completed by 31 classes across 15 schools in multiple counties across Ireland. In addition, eight volunteer engineers and JEDI team members have visited participating schools to co-facilitate lessons and provide guidance and understanding.

We are thrilled with the progress to date and look forward to the upcoming JEDI Spring rollout, as the intervention continues to reach more classrooms and give students the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the field of engineering.
